WATERMARK PRESS: GREENER PRINTING

Here at Watermark Press one of our priorities is to minimize our impact on the environment. Not only are we diligent in our recycling efforts (in 2008 alone, Watermark Press recycled 332.3 tons of paper and over 6 tons of aluminum), we primarily use soy-based inks, which further facilitate the recycling of our paper. We are very conscious of current sustainability practices in the printing industry.

That is why, in 2007, we were one of the first printers in San Francisco to secure Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) certification. Our FSC certification affords us the ability to offer FSC-certified printing to customers who wish to aid in our effort to preserve and protect the environment.

FSC

Watermark Press, as part of Consolidated Graphics, has partnered with American Forests to protect, restore and enhance the natural capital of trees and forests. In the recent past, CGX and American Forests campaigned to plant trees and help in the reforestation of the world we live in.

In 2007 Consolidated Graphics as a whole sent 53,000 tons of paper to be recycled rather than to landfills, saving 901,000 trees in the process. That year, we also recycled roughly 700 tons of aluminum. In 2008, CGX recycled 72,320 tons of waste paper and cardboard, and 650 to 850 tons of aluminum nationally.

While our alcohol free environment still requires solvents, certified agents professionally remove and process these liquids. The revenue that these efforts produce, finances our commitment to continue to seek new and better ways to conserve, such as CGX's current pursuit of an SFI (Sustainable Forest Initiative) certificate for all of its plants, including Watermark Press.
